Teaching is about leading students to things they thought they would never be able to play and unlocking the skills they need….

Marc works as a percussion tutor at Brentwood School where he teachers a range of students age 7 - 18 and of all standards from beginner to professional. Marc is a wonderful teacher of music, because of his prestigious musical talents and his optimistic, approachable and nurturing style, which always encourages the best from students, whatever the stage of their musical development. He also organises regular workshops, jazz courses and opportunities for his students to perform and is a stand-out example of how and why music education can be life-changing to young people.

Marc’s thoughts on teaching

“I’m lucky enough to get paid to talk about, and demonstrate something that I love, DRUMS”.

I can remember the moment the drumming bug struck me and it’s a privilege to now be a part of the musical journey of many others. A number of my students follow my own curriculum fashioned over the duration of my career but we all have different aims with our music so my teaching is open.

Other things that I’m often working on with students include:

  • Performance coaching for Trinity, GCSE and A level exams and degree auditions and recitals

  • Hand techniques

  • Reading

  • Stylistic repertoire (Funk, Jazz, Rock, Fusion, Country,) you are welcome to anything I know.

  • recording techniques.

  • Mentoring new professionals

Who should have lessons?

Everyone is welcome, my current students include children of all ages 6-17, (some with learning difficulties), adults, retired professionals and parents. If you are interested just get in touch and let’s have a chat.

I teach at all levels - My students range from complete beginners with no experience at all, to Pro players who are looking for some advanced material, or want to work on some gaps in their playing. Playing for fun, studying music, increasing your skills for a band, learning some percussion to help session playing or studying a new style are all good targets, all I need you to bring is an eagerness to improve.
